Palo Alto firefighters extinguished an early-morning fire at Trader Joe’s in Town & Country Village on August 19. A police officer reported smoke and flames at 2:53 a.m.; crews were on scene by 2:58 a.m. Deputy Fire Chief Kevin McNally said the fire was in the frozen-food section and involved “some equipment,” with cause still under investigation. Three engines and two trucks responded. The blaze was contained quickly.
Santa Clara County Environmental Health inspected the store, noted smoke damage to the freezer and elsewhere, and scheduled a follow-up inspection for August 21. The county decides when the store may reopen. Trader Joe’s listed the location closed Wednesday “for maintenance.” Spokesperson Nakia Rohde said it was a “small fire” and “we will reopen as soon as we can.” Employees were throwing out food the same day. No reopening date had been announced as of the August 20 Almanac/Palo Alto Online update.
