On 2 Sep 2026 The Verge reported that Uber launched London’s first commercial robotaxi service using UK startup Wayve’s AV2.0 stack. Riders can opt in via Uber app settings and may get a Wayve-powered Ford Mustang Mach-E (Nissan Leaf later) on UberX/Comfort/Electric; TfL-licensed safety drivers stay in the front seat for now and will phase out. Wayve’s camera+radar system skips lidar and HD-map geofences. Fleet ops are with Otto Car; Wayve keeps the driving stack. Waymo still aims for London before year-end; Lyft+Baidu are also targeting the city.
