Palo Alto Online reports on August 20 that residents of Buena Vista Mobile Home Park at 3980 El Camino Real are beginning a temporary relocation so the Santa Clara County Housing Authority can replace failing water, sewer, gas and electric infrastructure.
The authority covers the rent gap. María Martínez, a nearly 20-year resident, is moving with her partner and two dogs to a Mountain View apartment in the coming weeks. Catalina Solano’s family, with children at Barron Park Elementary and Fletcher Middle, is scheduled to leave in mid-September; PAUSD will keep those students in Palo Alto schools and the authority will provide private transport. More than 90 percent of relocated households stay within 4 miles. Fourteen households on the unaffected parcel do not have to move.
The Housing Authority has about $24.5 million in state MORE funds that must be spent by June 30, 2027, on park improvements only. Relocation itself is estimated at $2.8 million to $3.2 million. Palo Alto City Council is expected to approve a revised 2017 regulatory agreement on August 24 (county supervisors August 25). Construction could begin in mid-September after move-out, with return around May or early June after about eight months of work.
