Meta fixes Meta AI prompts after invasive child questions

After a viral Instagram clip (Kalie Robins) showed Meta AI suggesting “Who is the child passenger?” and pulling kids’ ages/location from past posts (incl. a supposedly deleted photo), Meta tells The Verge (11 Sep) it “missed the mark” and has fixed personal-topic prompt suggestions across Facebook/Instagram/WhatsApp/Messenger.

On 11 Sep 2026 The Verge reported Meta is changing Meta AI’s suggested prompts after backlash. Instagram user Kalie Robins posted that Meta AI offered “Who is the child passenger?” under a Facebook cross-post of her singing with her child in a car; selecting it pieced together her daughters’ identities from prior posts and relatives’ posts, suggested ages and home location, and surfaced photos including one she said she had deleted years ago. Spokesperson Dina El-Kassaby said Meta “missed the mark,” that the feature “never should have prompted the individual with questions like that,” and that the personal-topic suggestion issue is fixed. Meta framed the feature as helping users learn more about posts they already can see; in this case it may have used videos where Robins named her children.
