On Thursday 20 August 2026 the Nevada Transportation Authority unanimously approved Autonomous Vehicle Network Company permits for Tesla, Waymo and Uber to offer paid robotaxi rides in Clark County, including Las Vegas.
Tesla may deploy up to 5,000 robotaxis over 12 months, replacing a 10-vehicle interim cap. Waymo and Uber each get 1,000. Uber will run Motional (Hyundai) and Amazon’s Zoox; Zoox already holds a permit for 100 vehicles. Together the new permits allow up to 8,000 robotaxis.
Tesla Cybercab chief engineer Eric Early told regulators 5,000 is a ceiling and that 2,500 in a year would already be a strong outcome. The Livery Operators Association warned about oversaturation and crowding in the Golden Triangle between the airport and Las Vegas Boulevard.
