The Regional Transportation Commission held a Wednesday meeting at UNLV on the RED LINE project along Maryland Parkway in east Las Vegas. Officials said most major construction should be finished by the end of the year after months of disruption. The work includes roadway upgrades, bus infrastructure, larger sidewalks and more street lighting. RTC Chair Justin Jones said the line will connect UNLV’s main campus to the Las Vegas medical district and the airport to several hospitals.
Business owners said access and revenue have suffered. Mark “Sketch” Somoza of King of Hearts Tattoo and Sam Maxion of the DJ Museum described lost customers they cannot recover. Jones thanked businesses and said the long-term improvements should be worth it. Smaller asphalt jobs are still planned from April through June 2027, with more limited disruption than earlier phases.
