On 2 Sep 2026 Google agreed to buy 396 megawatts from Fervo Energy’s Cape Station enhanced-geothermal project in Utah, aimed at a planned Google data center and expected online in 2028. Google can option another 600 MW through June 2030. The deal extends a 5+ year Google–Fervo relationship (Google also invested in Fervo’s last pre-IPO round) and follows Google’s April gas-heavy Crusoe Texas deal (933 MW), so geothermal helps keep AI load closer to its 2030 net-zero pledge. Cape Station is permitted up to 2 GW; engineers see heat for roughly double that.
